Book Review: Redeeming Your Time by Jordan Raynor

Written by Don Vickers

Pastors are all busy! Over the years we have seen many schemes and strategies that have promised a way to get a handle on our time. I have found that many times those strategies leave me overwhelmed and looking for yet another way to manage my day and become more productive in the work that God has given me. I was introduced to this book through RightNow Media as Jordan shared some practices in managing his time. It was so compelling, that I purchased the book and have found it refreshing and very practical! He helps us to understand that we will always have unfinished work. He shares, “God doesn’t need you or me to finish our to-do lists. If the things on our to-do lists are on God’s to-do list, He will complete them with or without us.”

Jordon helps us to understand the danger we face by being surrounded by information that is always competing for our attention. We find it difficult if not impossible to think and focus on the things that are really important. He then helps us with some practical ways to reduce the amount of noise in our lives. Jordan also helps us to prioritize what we say yes to. We have to begin with our purpose. He states, “Contrary to what many popular books, movies, and seminars tell you, you won’t discover your life’s meaning by looking within yourself. You didn’t create yourself, so there is no way you can tell yourself what you were created for!” Jordan then shares his framework for prioritizing work in practical ways. I would recommend this book to every pastor! It has helped me be better and redeem the time before me!
